Women at Work Exhibition

Why not take advantage of some summer free time and pop in to view our latest exhibition, 'Women at Work'. This series of photographs, captured over a 13-year period (1987 - 2000) by artist John Werrett, portrays the diverse and important roles women play in the world of work. From farmers to factory workers, school teachers and beyond, John's black-and-white photographs celebrate women's contributions. Weekdays, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, until 9 February.

Find out more about the Women at Work exhibition.

Pilates - Summer Intake

Certified instructor Anna Steele is now accepting students for summer pilates classes at QVWC.

The classes will be held on Thursday evenings, 5.45 to 6.45 pm in the Victoria Room, level 4.

For those of you new to pilates, it's a holistic exercise program focused on strengthening 'core muscles' - those important ones that help us to have balanced bodies. Pilates encourages good posture and uses breathing techniques and stretching to align the spine and strengthen core muscles.

Contact instructor Anna Steele on 0405 454 744 or via email at digitalanna@hotmail.com to register your interest by Friday, 19 January.

NB: Summer classes may be cancelled if student numbers are low.

Note to Herself

QVWC invites you to contribute to the unique, anonymous Note to Herself community art exhibition.

Inspired by the phenomenal Post Secrets project, (one of America’s most popular blogs), Note to Herself will culminate in an exhibition of hundreds of postcards at the Note to Herself Gallery at QV as part of International Women’s Day celebrations from February 19 until March 9.

Over 10,000 blank postcards, distributed in cafes, cinemas and museums across Victoria from mid January, will form the canvas for women to paint, collage or draw on to anonymously share their secret desires for control in their lives. (Any card can be submitted as long as it is standard postcard size.)

Get involved and get creative. Send your postcards in to QVWC, Level 1, 210 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne 3000 and visit the Note to Herself Gallery at 18-22 Artemis Lane QV to see what other women are taking control of in 2007.

Postcards will be accepted for inclusion until 1 March 2007.

Note to Herself Gallery opening times

From February 20...

Tuesday to Friday: 11.00 am to 2.00 pm; 4.30 to 6.30 pm

Saturday: 11.00 am to 4.00 pm

Note to Herself is made possible with the support of City of Melbourne through the Arts Grants Program, Community Cultural Development.

Note to Herself is proudly supported by: AvantCard, QV, WIRE and YWCA.
