Young Women, Body Image and the Digital Age

With funding from the Office for Youth Affairs through the 'Go For Your Life' Positive Body Image Strategy, QVWC is implementing an exciting pilot project for young women from twenty schools across Victoria.

The Young Women, Body Image and the Digital Age project, which aims to promote positive body image and increase digital literacy amongst year 11 girls, will consist of a one day forum in April, where participants will get involved in a range of activities and hear from different guest speakers on topics such as body image and digital media imaging.

Many women's organisations are now trying to dispel the beauty myths created by digital 'touch-ups'. One of these programs, Dove's Campaign For Real Beauty, shows the extent to which images are changed in its fascinating 'Evolution' video.

With the support of an in-school mentor, participants will use the information gained at the forum to develop their own in-school presentations to share their learnings with school peers.
