Living in Harmony

16/03/06

Moreland Council's Young Achiever of the Year for 2004 knows the value of a harmonious, multicultural community. Nosrat Hosseini's work has actively supported the Iranian community and individuals in need. At only seventeen years of age, Nosrat acts as the secretary for the Iranian Women's and Iranian Refugee Associations, fundraises for the Red Cross and is involved in political activism. She will share her own story and achievements at Harmony Day celebrations on Tuesday, 21 March.

(DIMIA), presents a Harmony Day Celebration at Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre, Tuesday 21 March, 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. In addition to Nosrat Hosseini's speech, there will be dancing, food, traditional games and art displays from many diverse cultures.

The Celebration also signals the launch of the YWCA's Harmony Ambassadors Project, which supports young women to promote peace by sharing their cultural stories and traditions with others.

Harmony Day is a nation-wide celebration of our culturally-diverse society and to recommit to social harmony. Falling on the same day as the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racism, it is also an important opportunity to say 'no' to racism.
