304 amazing women lauded on Shilling Wall
The Queen Victoria Women’s Centre’s beautiful glass Shilling Wall was launched in May 2008 in the Shilling Wall Garden at the front of the building. The first 304 women nominated are now tributed on the wall, which was launched by Minister for Women’s Affairs, Maxine Morand MP. Since the launch nominees and their families have viewed the wall and shared their inspiring stories.
As donations and nominations flow in to the Shilling Fund, more panels will be installed until all of the panels on the wall are full. Donations will fund on-going Centre Capacity Building programs, focused on supporting and improving the wellness of Victorian women. The Shilling Wall garden was completed with sponsorship from BHP Billiton and the Shilling Wall concept obtained from a competition won by architect Cassandra Complex.
The Shilling Wall commemorates amazing women in all walks of life, and includes leading Parliamentarians, artists, doctors and mothers, as well as many previously unsung heroes. Entire families and groups of friends came to the Centre in love and appreciation of these women’s contributions. Over the next year these tributes will be available to view on our website.
Members of the public are invited to nominate an inspirational woman, and make a donation to the Shilling Fund for programs that benefit women. Come along to the Centre and read the names of the first 304 inspirational women on the Shilling Wall.
