What is it?

There are many definitions of workplace violence. It is clear, however, that workplace violence may include physical assault, bullying, physical or verbal threats, verbal abuse, and sexual or other harassment. Although workplace violence normally occurs at the workplace, it may occur other places. Workplace violence is usually perpetrated by a colleague or supervisor, but it may be carried out by a client, customer, family member or member of the public. This section will help you to understand the many forms of workplace violence.

What is workplace violence? This webpage from the Statewide Steering Committee to Reduce Violence Against Women in the Workplace provides a working definition of workplace violence, including bullying and sexual harassment.
