Getting the Balance Right - Write a Proposal

Once you’ve collected your ‘data’, it’s time for analysis. This information will form the basis for the recommendations in your proposal.

It’s important that your proposal makes a ‘business case’ for the adoption and implementation of family friendly workplace policies. Many examples of the 'real cost' benefits of these policies are available:

Calculate the costs of employee turnover, which studies have linked to lack of access to family friendly policies.

There are also several 'cheap and easy' ways to make your workplace more family friendly .

A proposal takes shape

Try to include the following to make your proposal as effective as possible:

  • Staff input about why family friendly practices and procedures are needed  

  • Entitlements in your sector

  • Benefits—including monetary—of adopting and implementing family friendly policies

  • Costs of not implementing these policies  

  • A timeline for implementation of a policy
