About the Shilling Fund Today
Queen Victoria Women’s Centre Shilling Fund: a tribute to Victorian women’s past, an investment in their future
The public is invited to acknowledge an inspirational friend, loved-one, mentor or colleague by making a donation to the Shilling Fund. Four specific donation categories have been created to allow donations at many levels, each represented by a particular colour.
The Shilling Wall garden was completed with sponsorship from BHP Billiton, and the first panels of the wall were installed in June 2008. Come along to the Centre and read the names of the first 304 inspirational women on the Shilling Wall. With donations and nominations flowing in to the Shilling Fund, more panels will be installed until all of the walls are full. Donations will fund on-going Centre programs, focused on supporting and improving the wellness of Victorian women.
Originally, the Shilling Fund was established in 1897. Relaunched in 2004, the Fund represents over a century of concern for women’s health and wellbeing, and honours the Centre’s roots in the Queen Victoria Women’s Hospital. The Hospital was established in the late 19th century through the contributions of Victorian women to Constance Stone’s original Shilling Fund. Victorians can continue the legacy by donating to the Shilling Fund, supporting Victorian women well into the 21st century.
